Most wet basements in Minerva come from slow, constant pressure, a little water every week. We relieve that pressure with drainage and a sump pump, and back the system with a transferable lifetime warranty.
Big floods are rare in Minerva basements. What we see far more often is steady seepage. A little water shows up at the floor seam after every rain, a stain spreads along one wall, and the basement never fully dries out between wet spells. It is easy to live with for a while, but it slowly damages anything stored on the floor and keeps humidity high.
The cause is the heavy clay of southern Stark County. It grabs rainwater and snowmelt and lets go of it slowly, so the soil around your foundation spends much of the year damp. That steady moisture keeps constant pressure on the walls. Sandy Creek runs through the valley here, and homes on lower ground near it can see that pressure last even longer after wet weather.
Winter adds more openings. Wet soil freezes and pushes against the walls, then thaws and lets go, and that cycle slowly opens seams and hairline cracks. Each spring there are a few more places for water to come through. Over the years, the white mineral crust left behind on block walls shows exactly where the water has been moving. Those lines are a useful map during the inspection.
Steady seepage needs a steady outlet. We install perforated drain tile below the slab along the footing and slope it to a sump pit. As the clay outside keeps pushing water in, the drain collects it before it reaches the floor, and the sump pump sends it outside. The basement can finally dry out between rains.
A wall membrane stops seepage and the white crust that comes with it, and cracks that leak are injected with epoxy or polyurethane. Because the soil stays damp for so long, we often add a dehumidifier drained to the sump. Downspout extensions and small grading fixes cut down on the water that reaches the foundation in the first place.
In Minerva the water tends to seep in steadily more than it floods, so the systems we install here give it a permanent drain at the footing and keep the humidity in check.
A perimeter drain captures water at the wall-floor joint and routes it to your sump before it reaches the floor.
A durable moisture barrier directs wall seepage into the drain and keeps the space dry and bright.
Collected water is moved out and away from your foundation by a high-capacity sump system.
The most common entry points are sealed watertight as part of the complete system.

Yes. Constant seepage damages stored items, rusts appliances and keeps humidity high. It also tends to grow as cracks widen. A footing drain and sump stop it.
That's efflorescence, mineral salt left behind as water passes through masonry and dries. It shows where water is moving through the wall. A membrane and drainage stop it.
Low ground near a creek tends to stay wetter after rain, so pressure on your foundation lasts longer. Drainage and a reliable sump handle that steady load.
Freeze and thaw open seams and hairline cracks each winter. When spring rain soaks the clay, water finds the new openings. Sealing cracks and adding drainage stops that pattern.
It helps with damp air, but it can't stop water coming through the walls or floor seam. If there's seepage, you need drainage first. After that, a dehumidifier keeps the air comfortable.
Water pushing from outside lifts paint and sealers off the wall. The pressure has to be relieved from inside with drainage. Then paint is fine for appearance.
If your basement relies on the pump, it's a good idea. Outages often come with storms, and a backup keeps water moving until power returns.
