Much of Canton's housing went up long before modern drainage was standard. We add what those basements were missing, a footing drain and a sump, and back it with a transferable lifetime warranty.
Canton has a large stock of older homes, and many of their basements were built without any real drainage. Some had clay tile at the footing that has since filled with silt or collapsed. Others never had a drain at all. Without a path out, the water that collects around the foundation has one option left, and that is through the walls and the floor seam into the basement.
The city sits on dense Stark County clay, with Nimishillen Creek and its branches winding through town. After a long rain, the clay around a house stays saturated and pushes against the basement walls for days. Older basements show it in several ways at once: damp mortar joints on block walls, seepage around tie-rod holes in early poured walls, and water at old openings like a closed-up coal chute or a basement window.
Winters keep adding damage. Wet soil freezes, swells against the walls and then thaws, and that repeated movement widens cracks that were once too small to leak. In a house that has seen many decades of winters, a basement can have several entry points at once. Finding all of them matters, because sealing one while missing the others just moves the water down the wall.
For older Canton basements, we install the drainage the house never had. The crew cuts a channel along the inside of each wall, sets perforated pipe in clean stone at the footing and slopes it to a sump pit. A dimpled membrane goes on the walls so seepage through block joints, tie-rod holes and old openings runs down behind it into the pipe.
Old openings like coal chutes and failed window frames get sealed properly. Leaking cracks are injected with epoxy or polyurethane. The sump pump sends the water outside, and a battery backup keeps it running through storms. Before leaving, we walk you through the finished system, run water through it and show you how to check the pump.
Many Canton basements were built without working drainage, so each system we install here adds a new footing drain and sump and seals the old openings older houses tend to have.
A perimeter drain captures water at the wall-floor joint and routes it to your sump before it reaches the floor.
A durable moisture barrier directs wall seepage into the drain and keeps the space dry and bright.
Collected water is moved out and away from your foundation by a high-capacity sump system.
The most common entry points are sealed watertight as part of the complete system.

Many older Canton homes had clay tile at the footing, and much of it has clogged or collapsed. Others never had any. We install a new interior drain and sump so the water finally has somewhere to go.
Yes. Old chutes and closed-up openings are common leak points in older homes. We seal the opening properly and make sure the drainage covers that stretch of wall.
Those are likely tie-rod holes, left from the metal rods that held the forms when the wall was poured. Wet soil outside pushes water through them. We seal them with injection.
Older basements often have several entry points. Sealing one lets pressure find the next. A perimeter drain relieves the pressure along the whole wall at once, so you stop chasing leaks one by one.
Usually not. Interior drainage handles the same groundwater from inside and costs less. It also leaves driveways and neighbors' property lines alone, which matters on tight city lots.
Often, yes. Older walls can let moisture through without leaving puddles. We check for seepage and humidity and let you know whether drainage, a dehumidifier or both will clear it.
Yes. Drainage and a wall membrane go in first, then framing and drywall. That way you're not building over a wall that still leaks, and your new finishes stay protected.
Most Canton basements take one to three days. Thick old floors or a new sump pit can add time, and you'll have the schedule in writing first.
Yes. Our lifetime warranty is written and transfers to the next owner. In older neighborhoods, that's a strong answer when buyers ask about the basement.
